  1. NEWS - Hotmail User Private Data Made Public

According to a recent MSNBC news article, Hotmail is making private user data of existing subscribers available by setting new options to "share" the information with Hotmail-owner Microsoft's business partners.

A new section of "personal settings" was added under the "Options" tab, and the default setting for existing accounts was set to share personal information like e-mail address, birthday, zip code (for U.S. users), and gender.

Someone setting up a new account will see the "Options" tab and be able to make a choice about the sharing of this data. However, someone with an existing account may be unaware of the option. For existing accounts, Hotmail will set the default "choice" to full sharing of information.

If you have a Hotmail account and you don't want that information to be shared, you must go into your account, click on the Options tab, and change the settings to un-check the sharing permissions.

  1. INSIDER INFORMATION - 3 Quick Tips for Getting Noticed on Job Boards by Barbara T. Ling

Today more than ever, it's important that you utilize every single advantage at your disposal when power job-searching. I'm not talking about the mundane "let's submit my resume to really big job boards" advantage - I'm focusing on your proactive abilities to really get yourself noticed where it counts. The following 3 quick tips will almost certainly begin to show you responses within 36 hours of implementing them.

1.) Refresh your resume in the job boards.
Every time you refresh your resume, it almost always appears to recruiters/employers as extremely recent. This increases your resume being viewed more often by employers who might have a position tailored to your skills.

2.) Make your resume title dynamic.
"Programmer" is only slightly less common than "dandelions in your front yard." Add action words! Things like "Dynamic Programming Wizard" or "Dangerously Innovative Programming Master" causes the viewer eyes to jump to your resume. From there, of course, you must continue to intrigue the reader to want to learn more.

3.) Add a direct link back to your personal resume homepage on any submitted resume in a job board.
That way, you can track your stats and see how many people actually click on it to learn more about your skills.

The Internet can provide you with a wealth of resources to ramp up your career search, but it's up to you to implement them. Take advantage of that.

  1. NEW, NEWSWORTHY, AND INTERESTING SITES - 34 Web sites specifically for marketing and sales professionals

Use the Web sites for professional and industry associations and societies to tap the "hidden job market."

HOW? Check the calendar of events for meetings and conferences where you can meet potential employers and catch up on the latest industry news and trends. Look for potential employers in the member directory, and look for job listings in a career section.

For tips on leveraging association Web sites in your job search, see the previous issues of this newsletter. You'll also find more associations for engineering, medical and healthcare, accounting and finance, law and law enforcement, and information technology professionals.
