Job-Hunt History
This is the "About" page circa-1994. The links and the e-mail address are out of date. This is where Job-Hunt started (but without the blue border) after it was moved off the Stanford University Residential Computing servers.

About JobHunt

Purpose

The purpose of the Jobhunt page is to provide a listing of useful internet accessible job-search resources and services. No attempt has been made to list every job listing on the internet here. Only those services that are relatively stable and appear to be useful or relevant to a broad range of job types and geographical locations are listed.

A single page of all of the links to job-related resources is purposefully kept in order to make searching the list easier.

Contact

The JobHunt page is maintained by Dane Spearing. If you find a "stale" link in the list, or have any questions or comments about it splease contact me at: dane@job-hunt.org

If you know of a job-related resource that is not on this list but you feel should be, please use the New Job-Resource Form to submit information about it.

History

I've had a number of people ask me how the JobHunt page got started, and how much effort is involved in maintaining it.

The JobHunt page (initially called "On-Line Job Resources") started out in December 1993 as a personal hot-list of about 20 or so links to job-related resources on the internet that I created while conducting my own job search. After using it for a couple of weeks, and finding another dozen or so resources, I figured that it might be useful to a few other people on the 'net. So, I turned the hot-list in to an actual HTML document and announced it's existence via the NCSA What's New Page. In the first 3 months of it's existence, the JobHunt page got about 3,000 hits total. Now, it get between 5,000 and 12,000 hits daily.

During the early stages, I used to spend time actively looking for new job-related resources on the 'net to add to the list. As it grew in popularity, people began sending me new URL's to add to the list. Now, most new links are sent in by people, or submitted via the New Job-Resource Form. About 5 - 10 new links are added per week, and the total number of links on the page currently exceeds 700.

The amount of time I spend maintaining this page is about 3-4 hours per week.

Acknowledgements

Many thanks to all those that have helped me keep the JobHunt page up to date by sending me the URL's of new job sites via the New Job-Resource Form.

Many thanks also to all those that have sent me e-mail to let me know that they've found the JobHunt page useful in their job search!

I'd also like to thank Stanford Residential Computing for their past support in hosting the JobHunt pages, and Infonex Internet Services for graciously hosting Job Hunt.
