The New York employers with a very large number of jobs currently open include:
1. CVS/Caremark - 2,845 jobs
CVS opportunities are available at various locations across New York state with the greatest number in the New York City area (612), followed by Albany (51), Binghamton (39), and Schenectady (39) with the remaining jobs scattered across the rest of the state.
CVS/Caremark is # 117 in the Forbes Global 2000, and # 18 in the 2012 Fortune 500, up from # 21 in 2011. Six hundred CVS/Caremark stores in 25 states in the USA contain an in-store “MinuteClinic” open 7 days a week where nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide in-store patient care including administering vaccinations and doing health screenings.
The job titles in greatest demand for CVS/Caremark in New York are Customer Service, Pharmacy Technician, Shift Supervisor, Merchandiser, Photo Lab Supervisor, and Beauty Advisor. There are many more job titles.

According to Wikipedia, ”CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE: CVS) is an American drug retailing company with a U.S. pharmacy chain. CVS Caremark provides pharmacy services through its over 7,000 CVS/pharmacy and Longs Drugs stores; its pharmacy benefit management, mail order and specialty pharmacy division, Caremark Pharmacy Services; its retail-based health clinic subsidiary, MinuteClinic; and its online pharmacy, CVS.com.”
2. Staples - 1,656 jobs
Staples opportunities are distributed across the state of New York. The greatest concentration is in New York City, of course, (492), followed by Yonkers (24), Syracuse (24), Jericho (21), and many others.
The main job titles currently available are: Cashier, Copy and Print Center Associate, Copy and Print Center Expert, Office Supplies Associate, Furniture Associate, Easy Technology Associate, Easy Technology Expert, and Easy Resident Technician. (Staples is home to the “Easy” button, if you’ve noticed their ads.) Many other jobs are available, of course.
According to Wikipedia, “Staples sells supplies, office machines, promotional products, furniture, technology and business services both in stores and online.” It is a very large office supply chain store, with over 2,000 stores worldwide in 26 countries. Staples is # 571 on the Forbes Global 2000 list, and # 114 on the 2012 Fortune 500 list, down from 108 in 2011.
3. McDonald’s - 1,368 jobs
In the state of New York, the New York City area claims the greatest number of openings with 212, followed by Rochester (64), Yonkers (48), Albany (29), and the rest of the state.
The job titles with the greatest current availability include: Crew, Management, Maintenance, Closers, and Cashiers, but there are many other jobs posted, too.
A very interesting book was published recently about people who started their working lives in a McDonald’s restaurant. The names might surprise you: Jay Leno, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos (founder and CEO), actress Andie McDowell, Ohio Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, and 42 more shared their stories with the author. Forbes has a very interesting article about Jobs at McDonald’s based on the book.
McDonald’s is # 186 in the Forbes Global 2000, and #107 in the 2012 Fortune 500 list, up from # 111 in the 2011 list. According to Wikipedia, McDonald’s is the world’s largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving around 68 million customers daily in 119 countries and is headquartered in the United States (Illinois).
4. Toys R Us - 1,247 jobs
As usual, the city of New York leads with 278 jobs open, followed by Yonkers (51), Flushing (44), Rochester (40), and many more across the whole state.
The job titles with the greatest availability include: Sales Team, Department Supervisor, Back of House Specialist, Maintenance / Housekeeping, Assembler, and Pricing and Signage Team Member, among many. The most fun sounding one was “Toy Demonstrator.”
According to Wikipedia, “Toys R Us is an international toy and juvenile-products retailer operating more than 875 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores in the United States. It exclusively operates the legendary FAO Schwarz brand and a portfolio of e-commerce sites including Toysrus.com, Babiesrus.com, eToys.com and FAO.com.”
5. The Princeton Review - 1,030 jobs
Again, New York City has the greatest concentration (315) with jobs also open in Central Valley (21), Buffalo (13), Scarsdale (12), Poughkeepsie (11), and other locations in New York state.
The jobs with the greatest availability include: LSAT Instructor, GRE Instructor, GMAT Instructor, ACT Instructor, and many more instructor opportunites. Plus 1 Executive Director opening, located in Buffalo.
According to Wikipedia, “The Princeton Review is an American-based standardized test preparation and admissions consulting company, based in Framingham, Massachusetts. It operates in 41 states and 22 countries worldwide. It offers test preparation for standardized aptitude and achievement tests and advice regarding college admissions, and publishes books with Random House. ”
6. New York University - 926 jobs
Not surprisingly, NYU’s openings are mostly in New York City, with 898, plus 23 in Brooklyn, and 5 elsewhere in the state.
The most numerous positions include Administrative Aide and Security Officer with a few other very interesting positions available – like Assistant Director of NYU Shanghai (“extensive travel” required) and Executive Director of Student Activities.
According to Wikipedia, “New York University (NYU) is a private, nonsectarian American research university based in New York City. NYU’s main campus is situated in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. Founded in 1831, NYU is one of the largest private nonprofit institutions of American higher education.”
7. JPMorgan Chase - 900 jobs
New York City is the location of the majority of these positions (674), with other openings available in Flushing (13), White Plains (10), Forest Hills (6), and other locations across the state.
JPMorgan Chase has a wide variety of job titles posted in fields like accounting/finance, asset management, audit/risk, branch banking, credit/operations, legal, marketing, real estate finance, and technology.
JP Morgan is # 2 on the Forbes Global 2000 Companies, but has been involved in a recent extremely large trading loss (in the billions of dollars).
According to Wikipedia, “JPMorgan Chase & Co. is an American multinational banking corporation of securities, investments and retail. It is the largest bank in the United States by assets. It is a major provider of financial services.”
8. Pizza Hut - 821 jobs
The greatest concentration of New York Pizza Hut jobs is in Rochester (57), followed by New York City (31), Syracuse (23), Albany (12), and many other locations across the state.
The job titles currently with the greatest availability include: Shift Manager, Assistant General Manager, Team Member, Server, and Delivery Driver. There is also an HR Manager job available.
According to Wikipedia, “Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain and international franchise that offers different styles of pizza. Pizza Hut is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., the world’s largest restaurant company (which also owns KFC and Taco Bell). As of 2012, there were more than 6,000 Pizza Hut restaurants in the United States, and more than 5,139 store locations in 94 other countries and territories around the world.”
9. Montefiore Medical Center - 814 jobs
Montefiore’s locations are throughout the Bronx and lower Westchester.
It has many typical medical positions available, currently including Administrator of the Hematology Division and part-time Nurse Practitioners, plus many other medical and administrative jobs.
Montefiore Medical Center has several locations: Bronx Moses Hospital, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Weiler Hospital, and Wakefield Hospital. It is the university hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In the 2012 U.S. News & World Report national hospital rankings, Montefiore Medical Center ranked nationally in 1 adult and 4 pediatric specialties. It was also high-performing in 12 adult specialties.
10. Hess Corporation - 782 jobs
In New York state, 41 jobs are open in the city of New York, with additional jobs open in Syracuse (21), Rochester (21), Binghamton (19), and other locations across the state.
The most numerous openings currently are Sales Associate, Senior Sales Associate, and Assistant Manager.

11. NYU Langone Medical Center - 777 jobs
All jobs are in Manhattan in New York City.
Open positions currently available include: Patient Care Technician, Secretary, Building Service Attendant, Runner, Medical Secretary, Admitting Representative, and Medical Assistant, among many positions open.
NYU Langone Medical Center, named one of the best hospitals in the world by US News & World Report, is an academic medical center comprised of three hospitals: Tisch Hospital, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Hospital for Joint Diseases, plus the NYU School of Medicine which includes the Smilow Research Center, the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine, and the Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.
12. Deloitte - 741 jobs
Deloitte has 724 opportunities located in New York City (global headquarters for this multinational firm). The others are located in Jericho (9), Rochester (5), and Buffalo (3).
Deloitte, officially named Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, is a professional services (consulting) firm with a wide variety of professional opportunities from junior level to very senior with too many varied job titles to list here. It is #3 in Forbes 2012 list of Best Accounting Firms to work For, and #67 in 2012 Fortune Best Companies to Work For (# 63 in 2011).
13. Best Buy – 697 jobs
In New York, Best Buy has 154 opportunities located in NYC, and more available in Buffalo (32), Syracuse (30), Hartsdale (16), and other New York state locations.
The job titles for the positions available include: Mobile Wireless Sales, Sales Supervisor, Asset Protection Specialist, Sales Associate, Customer Service Specialist, Geek Squad Automotive Installation Tech, Home Delivery Driver, and many more.
Best Buy is is a specialty retailer of consumer electronics. It is # 468 on the 2012 Forbes Global 2000 List, and #53 on 2012 Fortune 500 (# 47 in 2011). Best Buy competes with Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, and Staples in the specialty retailer industry.
14. Citi (or CitiGroup) – 653 jobs
Most are in New York City (320), with other positions open in Long Island City (196), Buffalo (77), and several other locations across New York state.
The titles of open positions include the usual banking, accounting, and financial positions, plus Vice President of Consumer Risk Strategy and Analytics (Long Island City) and Vice President of Equities Marketing (NYC).
CitiGroup is # 14 on the Forbes Global 2000 List for 2012 and # 20 on the 2012 Fortune 500 (# 14 in 2011).

It was the largest US bank until the global financial crisis of 2008 hit. Now it is # 10.
15. North Shore LIJ Health System - 618 jobs
Many of the open positions (163) are available in Manhasset with the remaining jobs distributed across the area including New Hyde Park (82), Lake Success (74), and many more locations.
