2012 Fortune 500 Employers: Research, Jobs, & Internships

December 12th, 2010 by Susan P. Joyce

In a 2010 study we did,  96% of the Fortune 1000 employers posted their jobs on their Websites!  And, we found internships posted on more than 60% of the Fortune 500 company websites.

Most employers see the value of  having those job postings on the corporate website.  A link directly to “Careers” or “Employment” is often in the top right of the home page or in the housekeeping links at the bottom of every page.

Working for one of these employers can be great experience, and add an impressive name to your resume.  As with any employer, they can be a great or a terrible place to work.  Some pay very well; some pay very poorly.

  10. Fortune 500: 451 to 500

The pages are interconnected, as usual, so start anywhere, and you can easily jump to whatever grouping you want to see next.

On these pages, you will find, for each company:

  • Rank in the Fortune 500.
  • Links to the Fortune Profile (“Snapshot”) of the employer, when available.  Don’t skip this!
The Fortune Profile is a gold mine of information about the employer financial performance as well as who their competiton is.  Don’t assume that every company on the Fortune 1000 is healthy and growing.  Many are.  Some aren’t. Check to see what is going on before you put a company on your target employer list.
  • Links to the company home page.
Find out what they do, where they are, who they are, and what they share on the corporate website.  This is another gold mine of information for you.
  • Links to the job postings.
  • Links to the internship postings, if any.
  • State where the corporate headquarters is located.
Most of them have many, many locations, so don’t pay too much attention to where the headquarters is located unless you want to work at the headquarters or you want to work at one which is headquartered near you.

Also, check out the Fortune 500 Companies by state, For more links to employer recruiting pages, check Job-Hunt’s Employer Directory

We’ll be doing more with the Fortune 500 at Job-Hunt.org in the future, so stay tuned!

Good luck with your job search!
