The 101 Best Twitter Job Search/Career Experts Plus 6

June 30th, 2009 by Susan P. Joyce

I’ve had several complaints that my #FollowFriday Tweets of great career and job search Twitter accounts are overwhelming. So, this is my #FF list, consolidated and broken up by category. I’ve tried very hard not to leave off anyone who is making a great contribution, and agonized about leaving off several to keep the number to 101 of the most useful.

Many excellent career Tweeps are not included in this version of the list because they are not currently active or not on-topic right now (new baby, new job, vacation time, whatever).

And, there are many other popular Twitter accounts which provide a mix of content with “personality” and they are not included here. But, they could still be useful to you – it just depends what you want.

Note: This has been updated numerous times, and I will continue to update it.
March 21, 2011, is the date of the latest update.

Find all these Tweeps and more on Job-Hunt’s Job Search Experts Twitter List.

This month, Job-Hunt compiled and published 2 very popular blog posts: The Top 50 Employers Recruiting on Twitter and The Top 50 College and University Career Centers Using Twitter.   A few people have asked what criteria were used to determine which Twitter accounts were included in the Top 50.  As with the thousands of other links on Job-Hunt, care was used in making the selections. Ohio Jobs Go Nuclear

June 19th, 2009 by Joel

A new nuclear plant could help create several new Ohio jobs.

Duke Energy, an American utility provider, and Areva, a French nuclear reactor manufacturer, are studying whether or not they can build a reactor in southern Ohio at a plant that was previously used for enriching uranium.

The plant would create 4,000 to 5,000 construction jobs and 500 to 700 permanent jobs, according to an article by The New York Times. If built, the reactor would be one of a series of plants planned by UniStar, a joint venture to build Areva plants, formed by Constellation Energy and Electricite de France.

Top 50 College & University Career Centers Using Twitter

June 15th, 2009 by Susan P. Joyce

Like the Top 50 Employers Recruiting on Twitter, the list of colleges and universities supporting their students and alumni through Career Center/Career Service Twitter accounts is as interesting for who is NOT on it as for who is.

Missing Schools

For me, considering the “missing schools”  raises the question of whether any school’s network is so good that it doesn’t need to reach out to alumni?  Or is it simply that so many schools haven’t recognized the necessity/opportunity provided by Twitter to reach out to help their alums, both to help those alums through difficult time and also to strengthen the bond, demonstrating the value of the institution and the education?

We find several major state universities (Michigan, Oklahoma State, Oregon), in addition to small schools like Macalester College and Cayuga Community College, but not the traditional “big name” schools like Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, USC, Purdue, Clemson, etc.

Florida Green Jobs Among Top 10

June 11th, 2009 by Joel

Florida green jobs are among the top in the country, as the state’s clean energy economy increased by 7.9 percent from 1998 to 2007.

“The Clean Energy Economy: Repowering Jobs, Businesses and Investments Across America,” a new study from Pew Charitable Trusts, placed Florida among the top 10 states for jobs in the clean energy economy.

During 2007, there were more than 31,100 jobs in Florida’s clean energy economy and 3,831 clean businesses. During the last three years, venture capital investment in clean technology throughout the state totaled almost $117 million. Half of that has gone to support clean energy generation.

Top 50+ Employers Recruiting on Twitter

June 9th, 2009 by Susan P. Joyce

This list is almost as interesting for who’s NOT on it at this point.  We had Burger King (until June, 2010), but not McDonald’s (as of July, 2011).  We have PepsiCo, but only in the UK, and Coca-Cola not at all.  We have Microsoft, LinkedIn,  and Twitter, but not Facebook, Oracle, Sybase, Adobe, etc.  We have IBM but not Dell or HP.  We have two accounts from MTV and one for Warner Brothers but nothing for Disney, Pixar, or any of the other studios.  Intel and EMC are the only manufacturers that made the list.

NOTE: We have posted a continuously updated version of this list with 500 active employers  (as of July, 2011) included on Twitter as a Twitter List – JobHuntOrg/Employers Recruiting, one of the top lists on Listorious.com and Mashable.com.
