Healthcare Jobs

With the economy continuing to decline and no reasonable end in sight, many people are looking to change career paths or get involved with a job that has some staying-power. Healthcare jobs are often considered recession proof, and the industry is usually hiring in one corner of the country or another.

During February 2009, the healthcare and social assistance sector employed 16,070,200 workers throughout the country, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Also during February, the sector saw its unemployment rate increase from 3.7 percent to 4.1 percent. During January, the sector had 645,000 job openings and 480,000 hires.

The healthcare and social assistance sector is made up of establishments that provide health care and social assistance for individuals. There are many career opportunities within the sector, including jobs in ambulatory healthcare services, hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and social assistance.

Service Jobs to Bounce Back

The service industry may be the first to regain jobs when the economy begins to bounce back.

According to an article by MSNBC, John Connaughton, regional economist and University of North Carolina-Charlotte professor, thinks that when the economy begins to gain traction again, service industry jobs will be the first to appear.

“Services make up a bigger part of what it is we buy as consumers,” he said in the article. “We buy more and more services and fewer and fewer stuff, goods. Professional services, architects, engineers, accountants, they are all in there. Medical care, hospitality industry, hotels, motels, conferences are service industry jobs.”

Feel Like a Job Search Failure?

You’ve been unemployed for an extended period.  Too long!  You’ve applied for hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs.  You’ve sent out hundreds, if not thousands, of resumes.  Your savings are running out or gone.  You feel like a failure, and you’re desperate.

Probably difficult for you to believe, but it’s NOT you, particularly in this economy. This bad economy has made it difficult for everyone.

A job search is often a very demoralizing situation – worse than dating! Rejection, being ignored, being told you don’t have the skills or experience needed, etc.  Do NOT do it alone and do not spend all your time at your computer applying for jobs online!   You do have other, more productive, options.

Jobs Continue to Decline During February

As the economic recession continues to worsen, more and more people are losing their jobs.

The nation lost 651,000 non-farm payroll jobs during February. According to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the country has seen its employment numbers fall by 2.6 million during the last four months.

During February, the country saw its unemployment rate increase from 7.6 to 8.1 percent. The number of unemployed persons increased by 851,000 to 12.5 million. During the last year, the number of unemployed persons has increased by about 5 million and the unemployment rate has increased by 3.3 percent.
