The US Census Bureau has an enormous task and a rock-solid deadline, defined by US law: they must count every person in the USA by the end of 2010.
So, they are eagerly looking for help across the country, in every location, speaking every local language.
The jobs are temporary through the end of 2010, both full-time and part-time, paying a respectable hourly rate for the location. You may find “permanent” jobs with other employers that don’t last as long.
Pay and Training
The starting pay ranges from $8.40 to $47.03, depending on job level (“grade”), and can go substantially higher depending on position, location, and level of experience. Forty hours of paid training are included for the Census Taker positions (see below). Offices are opening, and the Census Bureau is recruiting and training people across the country right now.
Location: U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters
In the main Census Bureau headquarters near Washington, D.C., the open positions include, as you would expect, statistician, mathematician, geographer, cartographer, and IT specialist.

Regional Offices are opening in 12 main locations: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Seattle. These sites will have standard “staff” positions opening in fields like HR, finance, IT, purchasing, and project management, depending on the location and current staffing levels.
Location: Local Offices
In every town across the country, Census Taker positions are open or will be opening soon. These are the truly local jobs – working near your home, in your own community.
