She is the CEO of Women For Hire, which she founded in 1999 and is now celebrating its 11th year producing high caliber career expos attended by more than 25,000 women annually. Her company works with more than 1,500 leading employers—a mix of Fortune 500 giants, government agencies, and non-profits—to enhance their recruiting and retention practices.
Since 2005, Johnson has served as the workplace contributor on ABC's Good Morning America where she reports on a wide range of job search and career advancement issues. She traveled the country bringing workplace solutions to nearly a dozen cities for GMA’s Take Control of Your Life Tour, and she created the popular series of GMA Great American Job Fairs, which connected employers in all industries with jobseekers in five major cities through live events. Based on the success of those events, ABC stations in New York and Atlanta partnered with Johnson for high-profile local job events. She also anchors Job Club on ABC News Now, a 24-hour digital news channel.
Dubbed the “workplace fairy godmother” by Glamour magazine, Tory speaks frequently about launching and advancing a career to college campuses, internal corporate women’s groups, and major conferences.
Her new book, Fired to Hired: Bouncing Back from Job Loss to Get to Work Right Now, follows her 2008 New York Times bestseller, Will Work From Home.
Johnson works weekly in person and via phone and email with hundreds of people who are out of work and seek her hands-on help. She serves on the Emerson College Alumni Board of Directors, where she focuses on career services. Prior to founding Women For Hire, she worked in corporate communications positions at ABC News, NBC News and Nickelodeon. She lives in New York City with her husband and children.
