One entrepreneurial venture was a retail store located in Acton, MA called Tables to Teapots which Jean started with a business partner in 1994. Using a creative business model for sale of home furnishings, they built the business to substantial profitability and sold in 1999.

Another venture was a professional services firm, which used virtual teams and internet tools to grow. This firm was successfully merged with a larger firm.

In addition, Jean has used licensing models to grow businesses. Licensing enables multiple revenue streams from creative work products with little additional cost.

Along the way, Jean learned that the essence of effective management is the ability to get the information needed to make (SMART) decisions and take action quickly (FAST).

Based on her experiences, Jean created “Smart Fast”, an on-line resource for business and legal information which includes practical information, in clear ordinary language. Jean is the author of numerous articles and several books, including: Advantage “IP” – Profit from Your Great Ideas (Infinity 2006) .

In writing about issues that entrepreneurs face, Jean shares what she’s learned over the years – giving insights from both the startup and established company perspectives.

Jean is a frequent speaker on topics related to business -- from business formation through ownership transition – with an emphasis on implementing smart business practices to avoid problems; and, using legal strategies to protect business interests. Jean has extensive experience with corporate, contract, employment, intellectual property (including copyrights, trademarks, and licensing), and business succession (exit) planning.
