Salespersons help customers find products they're looking for. They describe a product's features and benefits and demonstrate how to use the product. Salespersons also conduct financial transactions with customers. They may also stock shelves, prepare displays and take inventory.

Many schools offer sales and marketing programs.
Job Requirements
The education requirements vary by position and company. Salespersons selling sophisticated equipment to companies may be required to have a technical degree. Many retail sales positions usually don't have formal education requirements. Most retail salespersons receive on-the-job training.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected an eight percent employment growth from 2008 to 2018 for retail salespersons which is about as fast as average for all occupations.

Area Job Conditions You'll see a lot of salespersons in Taunton (Massachusetts), Odessa (Texas), and Elkhart (Indiana), and comparatively fewer in Fort Walton Beach (Florida), Fairbanks (Alaska), and Corvallis (Oregon). Wages for Workers are highest in Danbury (Connecticut), Napa (California), and Haverhill (Massachusetts), and lowest in Laredo (Texas), Rome (Georgia), and Kankakee (Illinois).
