Industrial Electrical Techs Job Overview

Industrial electrical techs install, maintain and repair complex equipment. They work on various types of equipment including industrial controls, transmitters, antennas and equipment used to operate and control electric power generating plants. Some industrial electrical technicians perform preventive maintenance on a regular basis.

Industrial Electrical Techs Schools and Degrees

Many schools offer electrical technology associate degree programs. The programs typically include a thorough review of electrical systems.

Job Requirements

Many employers prefer to hire individuals who have an associate degree in electrical technology or a related subject. Professional certification is sometimes required for the occupation.

Nature of Work

  • Set up and conduct tests on industrial equipment to make sure it's functioning properly
  • Evaluate malfunctions of equipment
  • Calibrate testing instruments and install or repair equipment to prescribed specifications
  • Inspect industrial equipment components

Industrial Electrical Techs Jobs and Outlook

Individuals that have an associate degree in electrical technology or a related subject and have related experience may have the best chance of obtaining a job.

Area Job Conditions

Looking at workers per capita, Warner Robins (Georgia), Anniston (Alabama), and Bremerton (Washington) rise to the top of the list. Winston-Salem (North Carolina), Reno (Nevada), and San Francisco (California) have the fewest per capita.

The highest salaries for employees are in and around Sacramento (California), Kennewick (Washington), and San Francisco (California). The lowest-paying areas are Huntington (West Virginia), Monroe (Louisiana), and Dalton (Georgia).

Training and Education
