Careers and Career Schools for the Job Changer

career searchIf you are thinking this might be a good time to consider a career change, we've pulled together summaries of more than 250 occupations, in a variety of fields, from accountant to veterinarian, which might be of interest to you.

It's no surprise that a lot of people are looking into changing careers these days.  Recent U.S. Department of Labor studies predict that, in the 21st century, people will change their careers at least 3 to 5 times over the span of their working lives.

Frankly, 3 to 5 times seems conservative, particularly in a tough economy.

Data for each occupation in the career list below includes:

  • Typical salary
  • Number of people in the career currently in the US
  • Expected growth in the number of jobs over the next decade
  • Level of education of people currently in the occupation.

For each career in the list below, we also provide a full page profile which you can access by clicking on the career name in the table below.

Each detailed profile page (job description and data) breaks the data down by the occupation's popularity and salary by major metro region in the US, which might help you figure out whether it's a good bet for you. Many profiles include a video describing the job. The videos have subtitles if you are unable to hear the audio.

Note that some careers may require more education that you currently have. Before you decide to skip a career which interests you because of the educational requirements, consider that, usually, greater education means greater lifetime earnings and lower unemployment.  (U.S. Department of Labor report)  So, keep an open mind as you consider these options.

On each career description page, you may find a list of schools, Job-Hunt sponsors, which offer classes or degrees in support of the career.  You can request info from as many schools as you want by filling in short online forms.  Our experience is that these schools will get back to you quickly. Use this method to learn about the careers and schools; there is no use wasting time if you are gathering information about a new career. (Thanks to CityTownInfo.com for the career and college search information.)

Scroll through the list below to pick out the careers that interest you, or click on the link to the group that sounds most interesting to you:
