Electronic Techs Job Overview
Electronic techs are involved in the designing, developing, manufacturing, testing, repairing and installing of electronic equipment. Electronic technicians usually perform a wide array of tasks, depending on the needs of the employer. A lot of them are employed by companies that use electricity to power machinery.

Community colleges and vocational schools provide programs in electronics. Various professional and educational organizations provide certification.
Job Requirements
Many employers prefer applicants that have an associate degree in electronics. Many employers require applicants to be certified. Technicians with certification may be given additional responsibilities and higher pay.
Nature of Work
- Identify and fix equipment malfunctions
- Test electronic units using test equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and calibration of systems and equipment
- Replace or adjust improperly functioning electronic components
