Job Overview

Construction worker supervisors oversee skilled and unskilled workers at construction sites. They ensure the construction workers efficiently use materials, equipment and their time. A construction worker supervisor assigns tasks to employees. Construction supervisors involved with large projects spend a lot of time with management duties. On small projects a supervisor, known as a working supervisor, works alongside construction workers.


Job Requirements

Construction supervisors need to have extensive knowledge of construction. Employers usually prefer those who have skills and experience in construction trades and also have leadership ability. A lot of construction supervisors don't have a college degree, however an increasing number of employers prefer candidates who have some college training.


Nature of Work

  • Advise construction workers regarding how to perform specific tasks
  • Report on costs, personnel and safety
  • Make sure safety rules are adhered to by construction workers
  • Keep records of the materials used for a construction project
