Expect to get a bachelor's or higher degree, plus work experience for this occupation. The share of chief executives with a bachelor's degree or higher is 65%. Job Overview

Chief executives are responsible for the entire operation of a company or organization. The chief executive officer (CEO), in collaboration with other top executives, establishes a company's goals and policies. Chief executives develop programs to reach the objectives they established. They oversee the budget and ensure the company's resources are used effectively. Usually, CEO's rely on skilled personnel to ensure the company operates effectively.


Job Requirements

The education requirements for CEO's varies widely. Many chief executive officers have a bachelor's or a graduate degree in business administration, liberal arts or a specialized area. Extensive management experience is usually necessary for the position.


Nature of Work

  • Oversee design, marketing, promotion, delivery and the quality of products, services and programs
  • Recommend an annual budget for the Board's approval and manage the organization's resources within the budget guidelines
  • Support administration and operations of the Board by providing information and advice
  • Make sure the company's objectives, products and services are presented in positive images to relevant stakeholders
